A California native, Troy spent his early years roaming the backcountry of the Sierra Nevada, and it is there that he first came to recognize his deep connection with nature, how it connects all of us and can define who we are. Always an independent spirit with a strong sense of adventure, Troy soon left the mountains of his childhood to embark on a journey that has significantly shaped his world view and artistic expression.
These adventures include working as a Professional Firefighter, Diving Instructor, Expedition Boat Captain, Extreme Environment photographer/ videographer, racing sailboats across the waters of the Pacific, and more… During these travels, Troy continued to improve his photography skills and in the early 1990’s began working with underwater video as a way of sharing the magnificence, complexity and beauty of the undersea world. While working as an expedition boat captain in the Western Pacific, Troy’s work quickly became recognized on an international level and he began to provide photography and video to a variety of commercial and broadcast clients.
Never far from his true love of the natural world, and sensing a growing dissatisfaction for commercially orientated media and the constraints it imposes; several years ago, he began a more personal journey of redefining his work to more closely identify with his thoughts, emotions and artistic leanings. In 2005, this journey took a major leap forward when he relocated to the Rocky Mountain High Country of Central Colorado. Gaining inspiration from the stunning natural beauty than surrounds him on a daily basis, Troy is now focused on exploring the fusion of natural and digital media (including the use of alternative printing substrates, printmaking, encaustic, and other mixed media techniques) to explore and express his view of the world.
